Several weeks ago, my friends Donna and Sandra and I took a pottery class at Light N Up in Havana, Florida. It was the most enjoyable afternoon I’ve had in many years. There’s something about creating with your hands that puts your soul at peace.
We each made 4 or 5 pieces by hand (no wheel- that’s for another day) with the assistance of our teacher, Terri Lantz. I wasn’t sure my pieces were worth the time and effort – they looked very childlike and rustic. Terri fired all our “beautiful” works of art and we scheduled a time for the “glazing.” My rough pieces of clay experienced a transition once they were glazed and fired for the second time – I was truly amazed.
If you are interested in learning pottery, photography, painting, beading, wood burning, etc. go to the website for the upcoming classes – enjoy!
There are tons of wonderful one-of-a kind gifts for sale by 30 artists. Light N Up is staffed and and financially supported by its member artists. Visit the website at http://www.lightnupartcoop.com/ and then take a drive to Havana.
It is worth the trip!
